How Often Should You Blog?

Recently we came across this article that we felt would be very helpful to many of you and answer that age old question:

Just how often should I be posting to my blog?  :)  Read and enjoy…

Two weeks ago, I opted to remove my email address from a listing I subscribed from one blog that aroused my interest.  I never expected that the occurrence of emails I will receive every week will be too much for me and I don’t want to consider it a spam, instead I bookmarked the website.

Sharing my experience above, the frequency of posting to your blog is very important, and many bloggers out there are asking the same question, how often should you post to your blog ?  Well I hope what I have to say will help you in answering that question, just bear in my mind, there is no definite answer, it all depends with the following factors described below.

Type of Blog

What is your blog?  This will help you determine the frequency of posting.  If your blog is all about news and current events, posting might take more than once a day depending on the topics being covered.

If your blog is all about product reviews, then the frequency of your blog depends upon the products’ release and information.  If it is all about special events, then frequency of posting may be varied.

If your blog’s type is informative, instructional, spiritual, inspirational, scientific, financial or in general, depending on the importance of what you have to say. You can post more often if you have important or urgent things to impart or less frequent following your regular routine or schedule of posting.

Type of Readers

Who are your readers, who are your targeted audience?  You will have no problems when it comes to your loyal readers, they need your written information, they enjoy reading your post, they know you, they comment on your blog and they follow every post you publish.

To others, personality of each individual varies.  Taking this into consideration,  you should balance the frequency of your posts if you want to invite more readers and followers.   If you post very often, make sure you don’t sacrifice quality over quantity, or some of your readers may consider it spam or splog (spam blog) and they will not consider coming back.

Rhythm & Pattern

Regardless of how many times you post to your blog, you should maintain a rhythm in posting.  2-3 times a week, every weekends, every other day, every other week, or monthly, this way, your readers will know when to visit your blog.  If they expect that on a specific day of the week they will find a fresh new article then make sure that excitement never ceases by posting new articles on those days.

Conclusion

How often should you post to your blog depends upon your judgment, the type of your blog and your targeted audience.  Ideally 2-3 times a week is good enough, but if you have something important to say publish it no matter how often it is, otherwise, relax and stick to your plans.

Going back to my story above, the blog was all about how to invest your money in various ways. The articles I received, although numerous, were informative but the problem is I don’t have that much money to invest in different ways, I guess I am not one his targeted audience.  Even though I unsubscribed from the email newsletter, I might need some of its articles in the future so I bookmarked that blog.  Who knows I might become a millionaire one day and might subscribe again to that site.

  • As a person who has started several blogs, posted a few times, then forgot about them, your advice is timely for me. If you start a blog, you should persist with it. This means that you need to think about what your blog’s purpose is. Is it to inform, amuse, sell? Whatever its purpose, keep it going and make it valuable to those who take the time to visit and read.

Apropos your other recent blogs, I would like to say that you gals have spent a lot of time, energy and probably money building a valuable brand. That some lazy weasel comes along and tries to rip it off is nothing less than reprehensible. May I suggest, in confidence (you can take this word of advice if you wish and if you do I suggest you remove it from my post in case the weasel is watching), trademark your names and logos, then the weasel and any other guttersnipe who tries the same lowdown dirty tricks can get their just desserts at the hands of the legal eagles.

Personal use pricing is great. Many people want a product only to use and don’t want RR or MRR or PLR. I just bought your little WP script and paid less money for it than for a bag of peanuts at the zoo. I want to use it, but not to sell it. Your splitting rights and charging separately is very useful for many, I am sure, and I see others doing this too.

One more point regarding one of your recent posts, about giveaways and making sure you have the right licence. If you give away a product you created yourself, you cannot go wrong. If you can’t create (or write) a product, outsource it to someone who can. It’s better to pay $25 to get, shall we say, a unique 15 page report on your subject or niche, that has your name and brand on it and to which you own copyright than to risk breaching someone else’s copyright. And let’s face it, $25 outlay to add maybe 1,000 names to your list is a good investment.

To make it viral, give Resale Rights – making the resale price very low (say $2.00) – with the reseller getting all the money into his/her PayPal account.

This will cover your butt and get you a lot of people on your list as well as a bunch of resellers you can jv with later.

You can get people to write or create for you at sites like elance.com. Heck, if any reader of this post wants a well written 15 page report on practically any subject, ready to publish, I’ll do it myself for just $25, as a favour to the Wacky Gals’ loyal band of followers. But check out elance.com first.
